Tea time!

Since our mothers spend all their time taking care of us,  we thought we would spend a day thanking them and showing them how much we care.

Farmyard fun

This week, Mrs. Hansbury visited our class and taught my friends how to be problem solvers!  She shared a special book and then kinders brainstormed ways to resolve conflicts.  I was really impressed by all of the great ideas my kinder friends had to help solve Mrs. Hansbury's problems. We just love when Mrs. Hansbury comes to Kindergarten!

We kicked off our farm unit by reading Mrs. Wishy Washy's Farm which quickly turned into a class favorite.  Before reading, we brainstormed what we already knew about farmers.  Take a look at our farmer tree map:

As a writing extension, we made our own Mrs. Wishy Washy mud poems.

Spring fever

Over the past few weeks, we have been focusing on different areas of our writing that we need a little extra practice with.  During writer's workshop, each kinder focuses on specific writing goals to help strengthen their writing.

I decided to try out 'writing buddies' and wasn't too sure how this idea was going to work out.  I thought it would be a easy way to engage kinders in the writing, strengthen social skills, and continue to promote a healthy classroom community.  After testing it out, my kinders loved it even more than I did!!  It is a manageable way to provide, one-on-one, small group, and peer support to all students--those who are in need of extra support, those who are consistently growing, and those who highly achieve.

In Math, we have been creating, writing, reading, and solving number stories using manipulatives.  During centers, kinders worked in small groups to create, write, and solve bunny number stories.

Like always, my kindergarten parents went above and beyond their call of duty to make our Spring party wonderful.  Thank you to everyone who donated items for our egg hunt, baskets, and our party.  I appreciate everything you do that allows our kinders to make life long memories.

Thank you Mrs. Kueny, Mrs. Ryer, and  Mrs. Schlagle for helping at our Spring party!

Kinders were excited to dye eggs with our parent helpers.  Thank you Mrs. Bassett, Mrs. Engle, Mrs. Ryer, and Mrs. Thurston for helping us make some really cool eggs!

Technical Difficulties

Sorry for the delay in posting last week's classroom happenings.  I've been having trouble with my internet at home, and haven't been able to access our blog.  Since my internet is up and running once again, check back tonight for our newest post.  Thank you for your patience :) Can't wait to start blogging again!!

Spring Concert

We spent ALL of last week practicing for our Spring Concert.  Kinders practiced everyday to make sure the concert was perfect.  By Friday, everything came together and all of my kindergarten friends did an amazing job!!

During rehearsal, we were able to sneak in a quick snack in the hallway with Mrs. Corino's class.

Our class preforming "Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport."

Kinders from our class and Mrs. Corino's class took the stage to dance to "Many Cultures, One World."

After such a crazy week, we were excited to spend time with our 4th grade buddies from Ms. Lyons' class.  Our compliment chain reached the floor for the second time this year, so for our whole class reward, we voted to have a picnic with our buddies.  Ms. Lyons' baked yummy cupcakes for everyone and I supplied juice boxes and store bought donuts (worst baker ever!!!)

Lauren and Anna enjoying the beautiful weather and yummy treats with their buddies.

Gabriella, Leah, and Alexis having 'girl time' with their buddies.

Ian, Carson, and Camari loving the time they get to spend with the boys!

Better late than never!

Sorry for the delay!  I had quite a weekend last weekend, and didn't have a spare second to blog about our wonderful week.  On Sunday, I walked into what I thought was a birthday party, but it turned out to be my bridal shower!! I was super surprised and overwhelmed by all of the love I received from my closest family and friends.  I spent all of Sunday night unpacking and organizing all of the wonderful gifts Nick and I received.

On Friday, we had a special visitor sneak into our classroom.  The little bugger left green footprints and glitter all over our room!  We followed the footprints and they led us outside and into the bushes where we found a pot of gold.  We read all about Liam the Leprechaun in the book Jack and the Leprechaun, but my kinders still weren't convinced Liam really left us that pot of gold.

Since it was gorgeous outside Friday, we decided to go outside to enjoy a story and the beautiful weather.  When we came back in, this is what we found....

...a special treat from out leprechaun friend!!

We also celebrated Cayden's 6th birthday!  He brought in delicious cupcakes to share with his friends.  Happy birthday Cayd :)

All of this upcoming week, we will be having music rehearsal everyday for our Spring concert.  Kinders are doing an amazing job! I can't wait to see the finished product.  Keep practicing at home!!!

Dr. Seuss Week

For Dr. Seuss week, we had some special readers come in and share our favorite Dr. Seuss stories.  On Monday, our special guess reader could not make it in, so my friend Justin Bieber dropped in to read us The Cat in the Hat.

On Thursday, we had a special call during circle time.  When we answered, we were so excited to see that it was Miss Burkett's 5th grade class.  They shared the book The Sneetches and taught us all about treating everyone nicely even if they are different from us.

Mrs. Kueny surprised us and came in to read Hop on Pop, a story with LOTS of rhyming words.

We also made Dr. Seuss' Oobleck to help us learn about our senses.  Mrs. Engle and Mrs. Luciano came in to help with our messy but super fun Oobleck.  The kinders were amazed because Oobleck always felt different.

When we rolled Oobleck into a ball, it felt hard like a solid.

...but, when we opened our hand, it would melt away like a liquid.

When we punch Oobleck it was SUPER hard, but when we put our hand in it, it sunk to the bottom.

After we were finished experimenting with our Oobleck, we charted what it looked like, felt like, and smelled like.
