Community Helpers

As part of our Social Studies curriculum, we learn all about community helpers.  With Valentine's Day right around the corner, we opened our classroom post office to learn all about the postal service.  Each day, students drop off their Valentines in our community mail box.  During center time, students take on the roles of different postal workers. Our post master overlooked all of the activities happening in our post office, our mail carriers pick up mail from the community mailbox and bring it to our post office where it is sorted by our mail sorters.  Our mail carriers then deliver our awesome Valentines to each kinder's house.  After all Valentines are delivered for the day, kinders can work on writing letters to our 4th grade buddies and, before mailing, they must buy stamps from our postal clerk.

Our classroom community:
Kinders learned their house numbers and all about how mail carriers know where to deliver each piece of mail.

Stamps kinders "bought" and added to each Valentine so our mail carriers could deliver them before Valentine's day.
